Concept: Fractured words
In a war-torn world, everything is made fragile. A home can become rubble, possessions lost, communities broken and families torn apart. In an enviroment of insecurity and uncertainty, education and literacy is the most valuable and precious gift a child can be given. This piece reflects the permanence of literacy against the fragility of the pshysical. The quote Once Upon a Time represents each...

pen ii paper
Al Madad Foundation, in collaboration with Athr Gallery, is pleased to announce Pen II Paper, a group exhibition based on notions around knowledge. Education is one of the greatest gifts to be granted and literacy one of the most potent skills achievable. After all, If you educate a boy, you educate a man. Educate a woman, you educate a family and in turn that family becomes a generation. In a...

Nudging the ball
Throughout University I would often hear that the first two years out would be the hardest - It’s now been two years. It feels strange not to follow the next line with a self-pitying, cynical sentence, but instead - I think the ball has finally taken its first little roll. The Last exhibition for the Al Madad Foundation was a success in many ways. I created a painting that I was proud of, a...

Concept
No matter what their surroundings or backgrounds, children all around the world dream, feel and play the same. These human parallels between our worlds is the focus of this piece. The landscape that suggests violence and destruction, has an emptiness that aches to be filled. Like the artist who transform a canvas into art, a child transforms this land into a playground, both artist and child...

Face my fears
I decided from early on that I was going to stick to what I know best - Pen line illustration. which consequently meant no colour. After briefly delving into a small trial with oils, I quickly dismissed it. But today after playing around on photoshop and asking for second opinions, I realised there is no choice but to face my fears. This painting without colour would be as empty as not touching...

Recounting Palestine's Stories: An intervention
In 2010 three international photographers with the support of Save the children entered Gaza. For nearly two weeks they photographed children and their families, victims of the Israeli incursion on 27 Dec 2008. These were then shown in an exhibition, but behind the exhibition and through confusion between photographer and organisers, too many photos were printed and ended up abandoned and...

Artist?
Last week I had an interview to be the graphic designer for a charity art exhibition, this would invlove designing the e-vite and the catalogue - yes creativly stimulating stuff! (lets note the sarcastic tone) I’m even boring myself by writing this, so let me move quickly on the exciting turn! (exclamation mark to heighten the excitment!!!) I was showing her my limited range of...

bermondsey "Up and coming"
I’ve been given the task of designing an arts map for Bermondsey to help advertise Bermondseys burgeoning creative scene. As part of my research I explored Bermondsey’s cobbled roads, quirky boutiques, and their many small dynamic galleries. Fashion, Art, and Design all have a home here, but unlike the cliquey and juvenile “arts” scene of east london, Bermondsey feels more...
