Dentsu
I had my first book crit at Dentsu today, with Head designer and designer. Their words were more hopefull, especially in the eyes of creativity. So far all my feed back has been that my work is too arty, too experimental, essentially too creative. and not enough design, not enough layout, not enough typo, not enough boring shit blah blah blah. But the guys at Dentsu actually told me my work was too much execuation, not enough concept, not enough personality. This restores my hope in creativity within the industry. I was pleased to hear this critisism as this is something I am happy to work on. I will incorperate more of my blog, development stages and sketches in how I present my final work. I realise my main portfolio layout is so generic and so preen that it makes it boring and more of a repetative ordeal to view my work. They told me that how you present yourself is just as important than the actual work itself.
I love Dentsu, I loved the fact that they took their time out, I loved their advice and I love their studio. It was my first book crit and I made a few errors - I was gonna write notes but then realised I forgot for sketchbook :S. Also I was too scared to ask for a placement in fear of regection. But I think it would have been worth asking about. Next book crit is with Saatchi! This time I WILL enquire about placement, and I WILL bring a book and pen, maybe 2 pens, incase one doesnt work!
